Victorian workers across the state are doing the right thing and staying home if they are unable to work due to public health advice, but they are being left without the support they need by the Morrison Federal Government.

Quotes attributed to Susie Allison, United Workers Union Victorian Secretary:

“The dangerous failures of the Commonwealth Government are hurting working people.”

“JobKeeper should never have ended when it did. The pandemic is not over and the support for workers shouldn’t have been ripped away, it was a shocking and cruel decision.

“Workers may not have been in this position if Scott Morrison did not bungle the roll-out of the vaccines, and the Government took on their responsibility to build a fit-for-purpose quarantine system.”

“Not only has this Government failed to do anything about the scourge of insecure work in our communities, but they’ve also now left casual workers without a safety net as we face another lockdown in Victoria. It is a disgrace.”

“Yet again it is up to the Victorian government to look after workers because the Prime Minister refuses to do his job.”

Additional information:

Victorian workers are able to access payments if they are forced to isolate due to COVID. Workers who have to self-isolate while awaiting test results, and who don’t have access to appropriate leave, they may be able to take up the Victorian government’s $450 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Test Isolation Payment. If a worker tests positive, they may be able to access the Paid Pandemic Disaster Payment scheme.
