We have to make sure no worker or community is left behind in the energy transition. But Australia risks an unjust transition without effective and meaningful planning, coordination and federal leadership.

That’s why we need a National Energy Transition Authority to secure a future where all Australians can work toward a zero emissions future in secure, well-paying jobs. And the Federal Government has just announced one – which they’re officially calling the “Net Zero Authority”.

Join us, online on Wednesday June 7 at 6pm (AEST) and hear from Dan Sherrell, Senior Advisor on Climate and Energy at the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

Dan will tell us what he knows about the governments recently announced “Net Zero Authority”, and brief us on why a National Energy Transition Authority is vital to:

  • Guarantee quality, secure jobs for workers transitioning out of carbon-intensive industries
  • Diversify jobs and the economy in traditionally carbon-intensive regions; and
  • Provide education and training for workers to get jobs in new net-zero carbon emission industries.

Come to our UWU Climate Action Group National Energy Transition Authority briefing and Q&A !

When: Wednesday, June 7th

6:00pm – 7:30pm AEST (ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC)
5:30pm – 7:00pm ACT (SA / NT)
5:00pm – 6:30pm AWST (WA)

There will be a short break in the middle and we will finish on time.

In Australia we have relied heavily on fossil fuel power stations to meet our energy needs in the past. This is now rapidly changing, as renewable energy and storage becomes cheaper and older coal fired power stations become less reliable and more expensive to maintain and run.

This produces many challenges and opportunities for our future. We need secure jobs for a safe climate, and workers expertise and voices must be valued in decision making to ensure this is a fair and just transition.

Where: Online via Zoom

There will be a short break in the middle and we will finish on time.

These meetings are opportunities for workers to learn, share stories, and build relationships across industries, workplaces and communities. We hope you can come along in this spirit, and continue to build our movement for climate justice!

We look forward to seeing you there.
