We need to celebrate this win with all our fellow guards and encourage them to join their union!

How did we get here?

In 2021 union security guards came together to create a code of conditions needed in the security industry. Central is the claim for Safeguard rates of pay – 6% higher than the award.
Over the following months they met with Labor MPs to explain the need for change, and won their support.

This year union guards rallied in the community to demonstrate that they are willing to take action to win.
In May union guards sat down with the Treasurer to talk about how they could make Safeguard a reality in Victorian Government sites.
Thanks to the hard work of union security guards, they have now won a commitment from the State Government to ensure that guards on state government sites are paid Safeguard rates – a 6% premium on the award!

What happens now?

For guards at Victorian Government sites:

By locking in EBAs that guarantee Safeguard rates and conditions, guards can ensure they receive the conditions that they deserve and the commitment from the state government is not compromised by security companies.

To do this we need all guards to stand together in their union so that we can lock in Safeguard wages and conditions.

Join your union today!

For guards at non-government sites: The State Government’s commitment has set a new benchmark for pay and conditions in your industry. That benchmark is Safeguard.  If your client and security company have not committed to paying Safeguard rates, you are working on a substandard deal.  How to secure Safeguard for guards on your site:
  1. Make sure all guards are members – join your union today!
  2. Nominate a delegate to present the case to your client
  3. Contact your organiser to launch the campaign
